2014 Itabashi Honourary Exhibition

On Father’s Day Weekend, 2014 our club had the honour of welcoming to our show a delegation of visitors from Itabashi City, Japan. Itabashi City was twinned with Burlington 25 years ago, and over the years there have been alternating visits between citizens of Burlington and Itabashi.

Several years ago after some conversations with the City of Burlington’s Twin City’s committee, Bonsai @ RBG President Mike McCallion told them we would be willing and honoured to put a show on for the next time that Itabashi visited Burlington.

The visitors were led by Mr. Takeshi Sakamoto, Mayor of Itabashi City, taking time from a very busy schedule of events to come to our show. Our distinguished guests were very impressed by the variety and quality of our bonsai as was evident from their pertinent questions and insightful comments. As a parting gift, Mayor Sakamoto was presented with two pieces of North American bonsai pottery – one crafted by our own club member Geoff Lloyd, and another made by American bonsai artist Nick Lenz.
